We all have our opinions on masks and all the conspiracies behind COVID-19. The truth is none of us know the true impact of the virus, what is safe and what is not, or whether wearing a mask helps slow the spread.
All we can do is listen to our healthcare experts, who spent years earning a degree and studying to learn what they know. The pandemic we are facing is new and never been experienced by anyone living whether a healthcare expert, political figure, school administrator, preacher, or Facebook specialist.
We all have our reservations about how reliable the numbers are or is there a political agenda behind this, but one thing I do know is the virus is real and it is in South Africa and all around us.
We are all facing uncertainties that have many unknowns and many of us don’t know what to believe anymore including myself, but today I'm being told that a mask might help slow the spread so I will mask up for my elderly grandmother, my parents, my neighbors, my children, my wife, and anyone I may come in contact with. I despise wearing a mask and refused to wear one up until now.
It hurts my pride but not near as much as it would hurt me to know I gave something I didn't know I had to someone much more health vulnerable.
Let all the politics continue to be played and let’s just be good neighbors by trying what we have been told will help. We have many complying with wearing a mask after the governor's executive order and many that are not. We are fielding phone calls and messages from all angles of people complaining about businesses and citizens not complying.
I'm not asking for a Facebook or Twitter war with anyone and will not get into one but what I am asking is for your to swallow your pride and let's just all see if wearing a mask works. If it doesn't work what have we lost?
I'm not masking up because the governor or some politician I don't like told me to. I am masking up because healthcare experts tell me it's how I can help and 5 months into this thing I'm willing to help anyway that I can because let’s be honest I’m ready for this to be over with.
