| Hard to say, but I believe when it comes to the war genre, The Killing Fields manages to edge out even Saving Private Ryan, and without a doubt, there's no better war film out there that's done a better job of capturing the realistic details and emotional loss of the time period, I’ll give it 8 out of 10. |
MOVIE REVIEW
![]() |
The Killing Fields (1984), a remarkable and deeply affecting film, is based upon a true story of friendship, loyalty, the horrors of war and survival, while following the historical events surrounding the US evacuation from Vietnam in 1975. It detailed the atrocities of Pol Pot's reign of terror in Cambodia in the 1970s. The authentic-looking, unforgettable epic film. The movie reveals the gut of a dedicated journalist who
went to the extra mile to risk his life by filming such a devastating movie, is
not an easy movie, but the human, more than the political, is the core of The Killing Fields. Fundamentally,
this is not a film about one war in one place, but about the ravages of war in
general. The specific villains are of less concern to the filmmakers than the
motives behind the villainy, motives all too common in the world. The success
of the film is due to the skilful, but unmanipulative, counter posing of the power of friendship. The
killing fields is not an easy movie but it is a very fine one.
